How To Preserve Your Brush Labels

“AAAHHHH!!! The labels on my expensive makeup brushes are fading! NOOOO!!”

Does this sound like a problem that you have? Or is it a problem that you didn’t even KNOW you were experiencing?

With regular use, the labels on your makeup brushes can fade away, making it difficult for you to identify which brush you are using. Here is an easy way for you to preserve your makeup brush labels!

YOU WILL NEED:
Tape
Clear Polish or Top Coat
& A Brush!

DISCLAIMER:
*** Do this at your own risk! Certain nailpolishes have been said to crack off and take the labels along with it. Though this hasn’t happened to me (I’ve been using OPI’s Top Coat), I can’t say the same for other people. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! ***

Random brushes shown in video include: MAC #’s 129, 129SH, 182, 181, 224, 194, 134, 109, and 316

Nail Color I’m Wearing:
China Glaze in Shower Together

    when I did this …
when I did this with my 239, I used masking tape instead of clear tape because I didn’t have any, and I didn’t use OPI I used a sally hansen no chip one. When I peeled the tape of 10 minutes later, the edges of the polish were already peeling off and the “C”, “2″ and “9″ on the brush all smudged!!!! I am soo sad, so the lesson is: use clear tape!! Only use OPI!!! And Only do one coat!!!!

    The point actually …
The point actually is to perserve the number. Though Mac has quite a collection, they usually launch more and more brushes and change old ones, so it’s good to know what brush #s you have for reference. for yourself and for others. Cause in tutorials people always ask

    I personally think …
I personally think putting nail polish over the MAC label is silly. Whether or not your brush has the brand name on it has no effect on how it works in applying your makeup. Take care of the brush head and ferrule. That’s what really matters.

Anyway, great video, Cheri. You’re amazing.

I just painted all my brushes with the clear polish (not top coat) last night, and the results are great! The edges are smooth and clean. I highly recommend everyone try clear polish instead of top coat.

Just want to add: sorry about the messy comment section, Cheri – with my removing comments and stuff. I’m new to this, so sorry! :)

  21. pandyland14 Says:

    After peeling off …
After peeling off the tape – TAPE THE BRUSHES to a surface so that they stay put while drying. You don’t want them to roll around and smudge.

My last tip is: try it on one of your cheaper brushes before trying it on your pricey ones.

    Hope that helps! :)

    - But I got much better results when I didn’t use the top coat, and just used clear nail polish. I know they look the same in the bottle but the formula is different.

So my tip is: don’t use top coat, use clear nail polish. (Any brand should be fine. I used Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, Color: Invisible.)

And I like SoDesilicious’ tip: take the tape off while the polish is still wet. It worked for me.

Thanks for the helpful video Cheri. I tried this method, and wanted to share my results:

    - I did experience peeling with OPI top coat. It did take off some of the label with it. (Now my MAC 187 says MAC 1_7. Sadness.)

  24. SoDesilicious Says:

    If your numbers get …
If your numbers get chipped off after you pull off the tape when it is dry, try this method:

Remove the tape pieces when the top coat polish is still wet! But do it CAREFULLY!!

And remember: use LONG tape pieces to make it easier to pull off a cleaner edge.

And make sure your top coat layer is THIN and not too thick or else, if you remove the tape off your thick application of polish, the goop might drip your crisp edges out of shape!!
