discuss the future of the reserve and its jaguars. Working together

See rare underwater footage as well as spectacular views of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve from the air and on land. Get a feel for the rugged beauty of this coastal park and its wildlife. Observe sea birds and whales swimming in the ocean. Watch sea lions basking on a rock. Admire the varied landscape, from islands to rainforest to waterfalls. Follow a surfer riding the waves and sea kayakers exploring the rocky coastline. This video will show you why Pacific Rim is one of Canada’s national treasures.

Nestled between Vancouver Island’s coastal mountains and the open Pacific, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve protects dense coastal rainforests, an extensive coastline of rugged west coast beauty and sandy beaches pounded by the endless surf. Pacific Rim includes the Broken Group Islands archipelago, scenic Long Beach and the famous West Coast Trail, one of the Worlds premier backcountry hiking experiences. Teeming with life both above and below the waves, Pacific Rim is as rich and diverse in nature as it is beautiful and inspiring to visit.

Cheetah Conservation Botswana (CCB)

The project was formed in 2003 to address the threat to the nation’s cheetah population. The major challenge for the project, funded by grant aid and donor support, is one of improving community perceptions towards predators and ensuring that retaliatory killings do not continue to threaten cheetah numbers, while, at the same time, supporting and protecting rural community welfare. Your generous support is already helping us to achieve that.

Only by working together with communities who live side-by-side with predators, with initiatives tailored to meet their needs and priorities, do we hope to foster the attitudes of coexistence that will see cheetahs remain as an essential component in this remarkable ecosystem and as a flagship species for the rich biodiversity of Botswana.

With over 68,000 acres of protected forest in Cook County, Illinois you never know what you may find. We really need these preserves as an emotional brake from the hectic life in and around a big city like Chicago. The forest also serves as a nice reminder of how the area looked hundreds of years ago.

Other local animals I have seen near Chicago, but couldnt get good video of: Coyote, Fox, Skunk, Eastern Chipmunk, Beaver, Turtles, Canadian Geese, Muskrat, Opossum, and lots of birdies.
It is possible in parts of Cook County that a very rare sighting of a wolf or a cougar may take place due to protected wildlife populations being displaced by human growth.

What can you do?
You can (like I just did) become a Friend of the Forest Preserve:

I took this video on Mother’s Day at Big Game Alaska (a preserve not a zoo), close to the Portage turnoff, and situated in actuality within the bounds of the original town of Portage before the 1964 earthquake.

Here, three brown bears were fed a moose leg that was dropped over the fence via bulldozer, and tied up. Soon, a coyote appeared and waited on the horizon, and the three bears trotted forth.

Although it may seem like only two of these bears are really featured, the first bear is the Submissive one, who wanders off to wait after the dominant ones appear; he can be seen briefly again at the first “growling”.

Watch through the credits — there’s a short clip following it. This is not the same area of the preserve, by the way, and is instead on the way back out.

Located in Calhoun County, the preserve harbors significant stands of American beech, oak-hickory and bottomland hardwood forest. No comparable sites exist in the coastal plain of South Carolina. There are several other sites nearby on private lands, but these areas, along with the preserve, are unique. Similar systems in and around the Florida Panhandle have been documented to have the greatest number of trees per unit area within the temperate forest of the eastern United States. More than 100 species of trees, shrubs and woody vines exist in the preserve from the ridge base to the crest of the bluffs. Woody plants may number 200 species.
