See rare underwater footage as well as spectacular views of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve from the air and on land. Get a feel for the rugged beauty of this coastal park and its wildlife. Observe sea birds and whales swimming in the ocean. Watch sea lions basking on a rock. Admire the varied landscape, from islands to rainforest to waterfalls. Follow a surfer riding the waves and sea kayakers exploring the rocky coastline. This video will show you why Pacific Rim is one of Canada’s national treasures.

Nestled between Vancouver Island’s coastal mountains and the open Pacific, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve protects dense coastal rainforests, an extensive coastline of rugged west coast beauty and sandy beaches pounded by the endless surf. Pacific Rim includes the Broken Group Islands archipelago, scenic Long Beach and the famous West Coast Trail, one of the Worlds premier backcountry hiking experiences. Teeming with life both above and below the waves, Pacific Rim is as rich and diverse in nature as it is beautiful and inspiring to visit.

This part starts at the southern entrance to the trail from Creek Road (by the Nature Center) and goes northward. (If you take this trail yourself, along the way there are several little spurs that go off to the bank of the creek.)
This is one of my favorite places to hike. The preserve lies in several municipalities…Rocky Point, Middle Island, Miller Place, and Ridge and stretches between rt.25A and 25. Here you will find a classic pine barrens habitat, as well as oak brush plains and a burn area throughout much of the preserve (burned in the 1995 wildfires) that is now recovering very well with many pine seedlings. There’s also a few ponds in the southern section of the preserve (south of Whiskey road).
A free permit is required here…you can get one from the NY State DEC.
