What is the difference between jelly, jam and preserves?

Okay, I know this sounds stupid, but I went to the store to by some Welchs Grape Jelly(I thought?), usually my wife by all that stuff, but we were out and I didn’t want Knotts red raspberry preserves (usually a good choice). Anyway in the grape section there are choices from jelly to jam to preserves and I have no clue about the differences between them. I felt stupid because I can tell you the differences between a 2000 Barolo and a Barbaresco, both made from the same grape, but not a thing about a PB&J. Help?

Jelly is made from fruit juice

Jam is made from pureed fruit

Preserves are made from whole fruit

In jelly all the solid pieces of fruit are strained out and jelly is made from the juice. In jam some fruit remains, and in preserves its almost solid fruit with just jelly like stuff holding it together.

The names are different for one

Preserves usually have pieces of fruit in them
Jam is thicker than jelly I believe
    And jelly is just…jelly
