Drago Malnar, the last Croatian shingle craftsman, demonstrates the traditional methods of selecting and felling trees for shingle-making and hewing logs using mallets and wedges to make the uniform wood slats that become protective shingles for rural homes – just as his ancestors did 200 years ago.

    Most shakers I know …
    Most shakers I know can tell how the wood sounds out by wacking it with an axe(I can do it myself.Western Red Cedar gives off a different sound when you hit it,though).This guy is pretty good.

    shake maker guys like this are few and far between,I’ve been in this industry for about 15 years met alot of ppl in it but I have to say only I know one person that knows it at this level,beautiful work old timer,we are the last!
