Poverty preserves racial lines in post-apartheid South Africa

South Africa is a complex and changing country that is still dealing with a legacy of racial division. It was only 15 years ago that the system of apartheid ended, and since then many of the racial barriers have been broken down, if not forgotten.

But a gap still exists today between have and have-nots, and many of the poor are black. They may be equal on paper, but because of impoverished conditions, many still feel unequal.

Worldfocus special correspondent Martin Seemungal takes look at the new South Africa, beginning in Soweto, a former black township in Johannesburg that came to symbolize the repressive old days.

    Oh really….where …
Oh really….where were these whites of the Democratic Alliance during your Apartheid Reich then? Too busy then enjoying the benefits of white previllege under Botha’s Nazis rule, to think about Democracy then. Now your evil reich had fell, all of a sudden, you are pretending to believe in one man, one vote virtue of democratic rule. Well, democracy is in SA now & the ANC is ruling, so deal with it or relocate, if the the idea of majority rule doesn’t suit white supremacist africaaners & Boers.

    As long as …
As long as appartheid is blamed for the currant problems in south africa, nothing will get better. if something works like school systems, it has to be destroyed. SA kids are really stupid now with lack of education. Tax is there to fund ministers and their familys, not the poor. So the ANC is raping their own kind. I do not feel sorry for you at all. We have now become numb to your pathetic pain and suffering. if someone begs, I tell them to ask Zuma
