It does seem too fast,and the speed does not allow her to express all of the sadness and regret that are in the words. But, I think the case can be made for this agitated interpretation. The reason Leonora is asking for Pace is that she doesn’t have it. She certainly shows none here. As always, the dramatically committed Gheorghiu makes a good case.
