It does seem too … It does seem too fast, and the speed does not allow her to express all of the sadness and regret that are in the words. But, I think the case can be made for this agitated interpretation. The reason Leonora is asking for Pace is that she doesn’t have it. She certainly shows none here. As always, the dramatically committed Gheorghiu makes a good case.
VIrginia Zeani, who … VIrginia Zeani, who is the great idol of Angela Gheorghiu, is posted here as a video response. The recording is form a live transmission from RAI Torino in 1965
To me, unless they … To me, unless they do the ending right then it’s not a legit rendition of Pace, Pace. Why is it that the greats never cheated they didn’t demand the orchestra not play its full part out, as if it were the opera.
Are you ignorant? … Are you ignorant? Do you know of any of the greats who have sung thus aria correctly? Look up Leontyne Price, read about Maria Callas, learn something about Ms. Tebaldi, then rethink.
No. She may sing … No. She may sing them but is not right for them. She has a beautiful voice . Norma is good for her because she has a beautiful top not Tosca or Leonora only my thoughts.
I loved her voice … I loved her voice and when she sings in boheme. This is too heavy for her beautiful voice. I could hear her singing butterfly . I like a real dramatic singing this aria like Dimatrova, or Harken
This is nothing … … This is nothing … an good try without the right volume and voice!
She is a small liric sopranovoice and a fantastic Violetta Nedda Musette etc.
but
Spinto or dramatic ?
NO
and for my taste not a need from her side to do this!
But she did it intellingent with her small voice!
With her recent … With her recent role as Tosca at Convent Garden, does anyone think she can sing some of the more dramatic roles like Leonora in La Forza?
