Want to keep other os and sign on to the psn, well it is possible. I have two methods you can employ to bypass the update check. The first is the best and easiest and opposed to the proxy method it will let you download psn games and updates. The second method is there if you cant get the first to work.
First method change primary DNS (THE BEST OPTION) :
1. In XMB go to Network Settings and select Internet Connection Settings.
2. Click Custom – [any option] – [any option] – Manual.
3.For you IP address, you may want to go to your router webpage to find out this remaining info, but for the primary DNS you need to put 67.202.81.137 which should trick the PS3 into thinking you’re fully updated.
4. Choose your settings from here on.
Second Method using a proxy:
You will need a Windows PC and the software provided below.
First download and install the following on your windows PC:

Once installed restart.
Now download and run Logan5′s Tool:

Once Logan5′s Tool is open follow these steps:
click on the frimware update box so its checked
then click start proxy it will show you your ip address
go to ps3 and click network settings
click on internet connection settings
click on the custom method
click wireless or wired (what ever you are using)
#wireless only: click scan
#select your wireless connection (ssid)
# confirm your ssid(network name)
#select your security settings and fill out your password and user name
click automatic for “ip address settings”
click do not set for “DHCP hst name”
click automatic for “dns settings”
click auto matic for “mtu”
click use for “proxy server”
type in your ip address that shows in LG5tool it will be something like “192.168.x.xxx” (the x are numbers that are different for every one for example mine is 192.168.1.110)
click enable for “upnp”
then test your connection
Attempt sign In, note first attempt will fail
Now uncheck firmware update box on Logan5′s and Sign in again.

Keep in mind….if Sony ever runs a check on your PS3′s firmware (and yes, they can do that) and they see that you’re signing into PSN under old firmware, with Other OS capabilities……you can expect the Sony “Ban Hammer” to start coming down real quick. Watch your if you value PSN. I’ve been console banned before. It sucks ass.
