    Depending on HOW …
Depending on HOW you make scertain mixtures yes they could be leave-in condishes. As for side effects that depends on you. If you are allergic to certain flowers or nuts and oils, also if you have high blood pressure or are pregnant certaion EO’s must not be used.

I buy my vitamin E oil from organiccreations doht cohm. All of my ingredients are stored in cabinets that allow NO light to pass through. and they stay cool and dry as well. ;o)

And are any of these concoctions suitable as a leave-in conditioner? And is it really okay to throw any of these ingredients together without any averse side effects? Please let me know. Thanks!

    In your case no …
In your case no preservative is needed. If there is no water added to the butters and oils then you don’t need a preservative. BUT if you do make one that has liquid in it like aloe vera gel, or aloe juice, or even water or milks then I use these preservatives: grapefruit seed extract, honey, rosemary EO, tea tree EO lavender EO and sometimes sage depending on the smell I want. :o )

    EXCELLENT video and …
EXCELLENT video and info, thanks so much for taking time to inform us newbies. I’ve just ordered some unrefined shea butter and would like to whip it up with almond oil and some castor oil. i have 2 questions:

    1) about how long would this mix last on its own without preservative?

    2) since i’m on a budget i’d like to buy 2 or 3 of the preservatives you’ve mentioned, could you kindly list in order of importance which you think is best to least best?

your answers would be greatly appreciated!

    Since you are …
Since you are making a liquid mixture, you will need grapefruit seed extract in about 2 tbspn for a 12 oz batch. You will also need honey as you will need to heat the liquids and honey helps fend of microbes that grow in heated liquids. Tea tree oil, and lavender will help but too much will change the scent in their favor. As for that scent. You will need a coconut fragrance oil. once you add coconut milk or oil to water the original scent leaves. And do use Vitamin E oil too for moisture. :o )

i want to make coconut oil shampoo. what can i use aside from honey and vitamin e oil? i want my shampoo to be more of a coconut scent.

Thank you :o ) So few of my subscribers go back and look at my hair to see the growth progress lol
For the spritz: Yes0.80 % is too much of whatever you are using. What I use in my spritzs is grapefruit seed extract. 2 to 3 droppers depending on the amount of aquios liquid being used. Say 1 cup of water, use 1 1/2 droppers of grapefruit seed extract. :o )

Hi, first off, i’ve just seen your loc journal 3, oh my goodness how your hair has grown and how healthy it looks. Update, I made your hair butter, with slightly different ingedients, and followed your advice on preserving with neem, FANTASTIC results, over a month later and no spoilage. I used the same ratio, 0.80% to preserve my herbal spritz but noticed it made me feel lightheaded and my body felt weird. do you think the ratio is too strong for a liquid as opposed to a butter mix? Thanks.

  15. Desaundrea says:

    Actually I said …
Actually I said GRAPEFRUIT SEED extract lol. And you can also use rosemary extract AND rosemary essential oil to preserve, as well as sage extract and sage essential oil. Tea tree oil (and don’t quote me) is only sold in essential oil form, I haven’t seen an extract of that. And yes it must be pure tea tree oil because one mixed with other oils will be less effective. :o )

This video is several months old. I showed the Hollywood Beauty tea tree oil because it was right there in the room with me lol. I have always used the pure 100% tea tree essential oil. No the Hollywood Beauty is NOT strong enough to use as a preservative. Pure tea tree essential oil is absolutely necessary. HTH :o )

  19. empressm6 says:

    I noticed that you …
I noticed that you are using the Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil. I know it isn’t pure tea tree oil; it has several other components. I am assuming you think it is potent enough to use so: Do you think it is necessary to purchase the PURE tea tree oil?

  20. Desaundrea says:

    The one thing to …
The one thing to keep in mind is that butters are oils in solid form. It is the texture or content quality that differe from an oil. butters are whipped and oils are not. You want to check out ReviveUK. She makes a leave in condish and shows you how to add powders to oils :o ) She only works in percents though, so you will have to convert them into ounces. But even just watching will show you how to mix it all. :o )

    Hi,
I’m would like to experiment with making my own conditioner. If you don’t mind me asking, can you tell me how you handle mixing powders and oils with butters? Thanks, I love you video’s and I’m looking forward to purchasing your conditioners as well.

  22. caliBornbEauty says:

Yes, I know that for next time…it is kinda greasy

  23. Desaundrea says:

    Yup go for it! :o ) …
Yup go for it! :o ) Innovate and explore my sistah :o ) Just make sure your product is NOT heavy or you will have build up.

  24. Desaundrea says:

    Hey the more oils …
Hey the more oils the merrier ;o) Tea tree will preserve but in your mix it will stimulate the scalp and help fight dandruff. :o ) Just go a little easy on the olive oil because it is slightly heavy when mixed with butters :o )

  25. xoxnabzxox says:

is okay to mix pure …
is okay to mix pure shea butter, pure coconut oil nd caster oil (with mink oil) okay?
