The vast majority of Illinois “sport fish”, while they may have been native to the general region, are only present in their current homes due to stocking. Muskie, walleye, crappie, smallmouth bass, and most largemouth bass in this state don’t “belong” where they are. Ringneck pheasants, sparrows, dandelions, and 98% of our population are non-native. Relax, a goldfish in a pond isn’t hurting anyone.

Common Carp, now widespread across America are non-native. The Cook County Forest Preserve District released hundreds of goldfish into forest preserve ponds and lakes in the 70′s and 80′s and they still survive and reproduce. I’ve seen dozens of 5 to 20 pound goldfish swimming these waters, this one was unusual because of the ornamental fins and tail.

Idiots like that and the people who release non-native fish into our waters are exactly the reason we have serious problems with Silver and BigHead carp, zebra mussels and other invasive species. KILL ALL NON NATIVE SPECIES.
