African Wild Dogs Hunting Impala in Moremi Game Reserve – Bostwana

WARNING!!!!! The video contains footage of an entire hunt and shows and impala being killed by wild dogs, DO NOT watch if this is something you don’t want to see. However brutal it may seem, this is truly survival of the fittest and mother nature in action, something I don’t see every day and was “lucky” to see in Botswana. It was both shocking and amazing.

African Wild Dogs are the second most endangered carnivore in Africa after the Ethiopian wolf (according to some websites, others claim it to be the most endangered). Their numbers are dwindling due to people killing them because they are a danger to their livestock or they find them to be nuisances.

Currently in Botswana there are programs to help increase their numbers. At least one of the dogs in the video is collared with a tracking device. On the continent itself, there only remains about 3-5,000, in Bostwana, in the Moremi Game Reserve there is an estimated 150-200. what people don’t realize is that our pet dogs are capeable of doing that in packs

    Actually what you …
Actually what you can’t see in the video is that there are 3-4 dogs coming up behind the car to surround the impala. If we hadn’t been there she would have been taken down by them anyway. What at first seemed like a disorganized hunt (I didn’t think they were going to catch anything) was actually a planned/maneuvered pack decision.

We also heard later that they caught another one that evening from the people camping in the area.

Yes, I did say your reaction was hypocritical, but I meant no insult, and apologize if I came off that way. Indeed, I was initially shocked by such brutality. But this is something over which you or I have no control. We are humans, not Gods. Those wild dogs, thanks to our arrogance, are an endangered species. Impalas, on the other hand, are flourishing. Take away the predators, and the balance of nature will be tipped. Don’t criticize what He has created. Only live, learn and love.

you’re a human that has the knowledge to understand that that is how it is and has to be for them to survive and for us to survive as well I’m pretty sure you don’t do all this sobbing and wining when you’re eating your delicious thanksgiving turkey? you’re no different from them the difference is they don’t raise their prey to think it’s being loved only to become a quick meal at a burger joint!!!

    Hi Everyone, I …
Hi Everyone, I appreciate most of the comments on my video. Yes I did pay money to go on this safari. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I knew there was a small chance I’d come across a wild animal kill and my reaction to this side of nature was raw and honest. I don’t think it means we’re hypocritical, I am not ashamed of how I initially responded, I’m human. It was a raw reaction and I’m glad to have seen it. It reminds me of how safe and easy my life is.

  14. norahproctor says:

    Yeah, I agree, …
Yeah, I agree, these morons pay good money to go on these safaris, and then they get nauseated when they see nature in its purest form. What a bunch of hypocritical jackasses! They should’ve stayed their home and watched Crock Hunter reruns!

That impala run to the people hoping that will change the fate. There was so much space it could have run to, but it run around the camp and finally run and stopped by the truck hoping that the people will intervene, but these people paid money to watch this happen.

I totally agree .I’m not good at expressing things I’m glad you mentioned their social structure .I was referring to an older undeserved belief. I did mention they kill faster and will add more humanely than some other predators

    I don’t think any …
I don’t think any reasonable person should consider them a scourge. Nature has created far more potentially disgusting, merciless occurrences than this. I’d like to think most people see wild dogs as beautiful, emotional and loyal family orientated creatures that like anything has to eat the only way it knows how!

  19. appapo3 says:

I read up on the …
I read up on the painted dog .Called that, to help protection of a monotypic genus, in other words their unique.I find the more you learn the more confusing the origin becomes. In the video they are considered a scourge because the debowel the animal while it is alive. They kill faster than the other predators leopard and hyena etc.

I agree when are these carnavoirs going to get civilized and and have their meat prepared by a union butcher.I prefer footage of wild life hanging out in their habitat. but that doesn’t show the speed agility and grace .
