If you knew that death was just the beginning of your journey into the spiritual world, would you still be afraid of it? Or is it just that we want to self-preserve and don’t like the idea of letting go of the physical world and leaving others behind to grieve? Or it it the potential pain that disease or an accident might put us through just before death that we are fearful of? What are your insights?

I hope you’ll excuse my long-winded tendency, but you’ve got me thinking.

I’d like to say that there is a reason that survival has been rated as the number one most important thing to human beings, but I can’t really wrap my mind around the exact motive. What is it that makes our lives so precious to hold on to? Is it our ego? Our inseparable sense of body and mind(spirit/self)? Is it that everything that we have ever known (or can recall knowing – to leave room for the argument of past lives and reincarnation) has been transmitted to us through our own eyes and by way of our own perception? Everything I base my answer on is pure speculation by way of personal experience and searching. I can’t begin to touch all the variables.

The entire universe as we know it is nothing … so infinitesimal compared to a human life and his/her ego (awareness of self). We are so very self involved, which is natural, because our entire awareness of this universe is from our own relative perspective. We are not capable of grasping the picture as a whole. We cannot look at the world as one and make sense of it’s every working. As it is, we rely solely on our own senses to guide us through life. Our own relative experience.

Tell a kid that there are children just like him/her struggling to survive in another country, and they may do so much as to bat an eyelash. Sure some will have genuine emotion for the less fortunate, but how many actually do anything about it? Is this kid really effected by this knowledge?

Take the same kid and spit gum deep in his/her hair causing him/her to get a ridiculous hair cut and become the laughing stock of their school (or publicly humiliate them in some other trivial way) and they suddenly have quite a bit of grief to deal with. They have a personal dilemma. Something they can actually feel and be effected by, even though the situation is horribly mundane in comparison.

It is as if each human is their own little world. Their own life is of the upmost importance.

Yet, what is to be said about the self-sacrificing individual? Do they hold no value for themselves or do they place their own identity in the wellbeing of another interest? a cause, a community, religion, their country, an idea or another human being. Even when we ourselves are not afraid of death, or the (uncountable) processes through which death comes, we will often be concerned when faced with another’s demise.

I think the biggest part of this issue is what lies beyong the curtain. What awaits us after death cannot be ascertained by fact. There is no answer to the great mystery of our existence or what is in store for us after all is said and done. It is our lack of understanding that gives birth to the fear of death. Our daunting absence of the truth of things that cannot be studied on this physical earth.

Knowledge is something that has been universally sought after throughout all of history; considered by most a great treasure. What is unknown is to be faced with either caution or acceptance of ignorance.; like a test of great courage, or a blind leap of faith towards what cannot be determined.

It is through the creation of a ‘plan’ or an idea that gives birth to the middle ground: philosophy. A belief. Belief in a specific ending so that one can ignorantly venture into the dark and murky without feeling blind. Most commonly this philosophy has to do with life after life, a new world, a spiritual initiation.

Although I am not a religious person, I do have beliefs. Whether by upbringing or instinct it is my understanding that dying is natural and is something that needs to happen whether science finally cures the ‘disease’ called death or not. So in answer to your question, am I afraid of death or the process of dying? I’d say the process holds little interest for me, and as for dying…

I am terrified, and very much intrigued.

Needing to know how to preserve the roosters comb. We are trying a little experiment and mounting a barred rock rooster for my boyfriends mother but we have no idea how to preserve the comb without it having to be freeze dried. Is there anything else we could possibly do ourselves to preserve it?

Well, I’m no expert but nobody else has answered either. Just speaking from general knowledge and I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. I don’t believe you CAN do what you want to do. Taxidermy in general takes off the hide/skin of the animal and tans it, and then stuffs it with inert material and uses glass eyes and the like. Anything organic, like cartilage (your rooster’s comb) can’t be used because it will rot. You can preserve it in formaldehyde, but that’s in a jar. What they do with fish, like marlin, is mold them and cast them in fiberglass and then just paint them. Usually they will add the beak from the original fish, after it dries out. You could freeze dry your comb, probably you could just air dry it for a couple of weeks, too, but then it will shrink and probably not look like the comb should look. Just cast it or even carve it in balsa wood, and paint it. I think I’m right, anyway.

My dog died and i am wondering what would be a practical and inexpensive way to preserve a hair sample for cloning purposes in case such procedures will become widely accessible one day in the future. Thank you.

Cloning requires cells with intact genetic material. The process requires a complete diploid set of intact chromosomes with their associated proteins as they exist in a living cell. At this time we do not know how to assemble functional chromosomes and their proteins and the hair’s cells have died so the cellular content is degraded.

Any DNA recovered from hair root would be broken and incomplete a very short time after your dog passed away. It would be sufficiently intact to get genetic fingerprints but not to clone.

I am sorry you miss your dog but it is not possible to clone from DNA that has degraded.

The other problem is the new dog would not be your beloved pet, it would be a new individual with its own personality.
Missy was cloned and the two clones are neither alike not like their cell donor Missy.

10 % of the oceans big fish remain , 25% of all mammals face extinction in the next 30 years . 3 species a week go extinct . if we don’t save the ecosystem , the place were we get our food , a job won’t help if you are starving to death . even now , every ten seconds a person starves to death somewhere on earth . 7 billion is unsustainable . the movie ‘ soylent green ‘ is set in the year 2017 .
the good news is – genetically modified grains are designed to feed the masses , and if the animal models hold true for human , by the 3rd generation of eating GM grain , fertility rates go down to 0 % . so if you want grandchildren you must stay kosher .

You REALLY want to help the environment? Do you REALLY care? Do you REALLY want to do something about it?

If so, you have to address the core problem. The central reason. The source of all the problems we have with the environment in the first place. The CAUSE of all this. And, that IS the increasing number of humans on this planet.

If you want to help, then advocate and promote birth control, contraceptives, abortion, and two-child families. Demean this antiquated, superstitious belief that we should "be fruitful and multiply". Make people realize that the ONLY way to save this planet is to achieve 0 population growth.

If we do not stop our every increasing predilection for breeding like a bunch of rats, we will, sooner than you think, use up ALL our natural resources, pollute all our air and water, destroy our oceans, cut down all our forests, hunt down all our wildlife, continue to kill millions of small animals on our roads and freeways, have pointless wars over religious differences, and spread unstoppable diseases throughout the world. Etc, etc, etc.

Only by controlling our numbers will we save this planet. If we do not, then, not only the Earth will be destroyed, but we are DOOMED as well. No doubt about it.

.

can somebody identify the importance of conserving and also the preserving the eco environmentof Asia?..really appreciate your opinion.thanks

For starters, if the country was plowed down and covered with cement, all of the local fauna and flora would be destroyed along with it. This would lead to species being wiped out by the hundreds. Species that can only thrive in their natural habitat, not zoos, pandas for example. These species would only exist in small numbers in zoos, and in history books.

It would also negatively impact the earth’s environment. If the trees and plants were gone, then what is going to clean all the air that the Asians are polluting. The trees help to balance the good and bad that is caused by people —

bad=smog and chemicals put into the air and water by human manufacturing and waste products

good=trees purifying air and water making it safe for humans and animals to use and pollute again

This would also lead to the greenhouse effect eventually melting the poles and flooding most of the world. Due to the lack of filtering plants that help keep air free of ozone depleting chemicals.

While canoeing I found a dead horseshoe crab floating in water so I took it home as I wanted to preserve it for display. I removed the rotton inside of the crab and left the shell to dry under the sun. It’s now dried but some tissues are still stuck to the shell (rock hard!) and it smells of preserved salt fish. What can I do to preserve it for display and kill the smell?

Sometimes ago I read that you should bury these shells in your garden for about 4 weeks. In this time ants and other carrion feeders remove every smelling organic material. I never checked out, but it could work.

Another possibility is, after cleaning it mechanically with a brush, to put it overnight into such a denture cleaning solution.

To try a mixture of household ammonia and H2O2-solution 10% could work, but it bleaches, smells and is dangerous ( caustic ).
