I’ve never made berry preserves before, but it’s hard to find preserves in the store that aren’t really expensive or full of extra sweeteners. Can it be cost effective to make your own if you have to buy the fruit? How difficult are they to make?

They are easy enough to make.
You need a good recipe with good instructions to follow, make sure you have all of the required ingredients, and the equipment needed as well as the quantities.

Then do a trial run to make sure what you are told to do will work.

It pays to read a couple of recipes for similar preserves to see if there are any glaring differences.
Sometimes there will be typos where a T is used instead of a t or other discrepancies

Check with your local city, county and state parks as too what is available for weddings. Many public places do not allow large tents to be erected, so this is something you will need to check on. You might be better to see if there is a privately owned place that you can rent that will allow tents.
Good Luck!

So we are just going to buy some, but don’t know which ones to buy! To those who make pear preserves or know someone who does, which kind do you/the other person use? Thanks!

Bartlett, Seckel or Bosc.

Firm and crunchy is what u need.

The fruit should still remain intact and pretty while cooking.

One pound fruit to sugar.

A little honey.

Stir constantly after boil on top of stove, for about an hour.

Jam should come of spoon like syrup when done.

Add lemon juice, just a touch at end.

You may also cut fruit, dip in chocolate and cool.

I’m making raspberry brownies that call for raspberry preserves, when I only have raspberries. Instead of going through the process of making the jam, can I mix the amount of berries I need with the same amount of sugar?

It depends on how the raspberry preserves are used in the recipe.
If you are to spread a thin layer of the preserves over the baked brownies then no you can not use fresh berries with added sugar. The preserves have pectin that helps the berries and sugar set up. With out pectin the mixture will soak into the brownies making them soggy.
If the recipe calls for stirring the preserves into the batter then baking you can use the berries and just stir the berries into the batter. You will have juicy pockets of berries in the brownies. No need to add extra sugar. Just stir gently when adding the berries. As a matter of fact I would pour half the batter into the pan sprinkle berries on top then put dollops of batter on top of the berries so you don’t break them down.

I’m making my boyfriend a pie for his birthday, and he asked if I could make one with raspberry preserves instead of raspberry pie filling. I’ve never used preserves in baking pies before, so I don’t know if it’s possible. Does anyone have a recipe or instruction on how to use preserves instead of filling for a pie?
He wants raspberry preserves and cherry filling all in the same pie. So would the cherry filling stabilize the preserves? Or can I just mash the raspberry filling to make it more jam-like?

The answer to your main question "Can you make pie with raspberry preserves" is no. You can add them as an ingredient, but as the only ingredient (even doctored up) the preserves will melt and turn the crust soggy

You can cook your own raspberry filling or use the canned pie filling which contains fruit, sugar and starches

EDIT: I would use the cherry pie filling and add 1/4 cup of seedless raspberry preserves

( And if you knew a ratio for about 2 cups of blueberries that would be awesome!!!)

I would add 1 cup of agave and 1/3 cup lemon juice to 2 cups of blueberries. If the blueberries are extra sweet then subtract 1/3 cup agave The formula is 1 sweetener to 2 fruit.Sounds delicious = )
