My daughter is turning one and I’m really trying to find a good place to throw her birthday at…

You have to go to the suburbs to find a decent preserve, but there are a few in Palos

http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4GGIK_enUS273US274&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=palos+forest+preserve&fb=1&gl=us&hq=palos+forest+preserve&hnear=0x880ee54d4ed5111b:0x7fd1f848c350e85d,Aurora,+IL&ei=62zeTa7pAqnr0gGX-pyeCg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&resnum=4&ved=0CAQQtgMwAw

http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4GGIK_enUS273US274&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=palos+forest+preserve&fb=1&gl=us&hq=palos+forest+preserve&hnear=0x880ee54d4ed5111b:0x7fd1f848c350e85d,Aurora,+IL&ei=62zeTa7pAqnr0gGX-pyeCg&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&resnum=4&ved=0CAQQtgMwAw

I’ve been to both of these and they do have decent hiking trail too, if you like that sort of thing. However that was 6-8 years ago, so I can’t guarantee they have been maintained.

Which is not an economic incentive that would help to preserve biological diversity?
a.) political commitment to protect organisms
b.) ecotourism
c.) charge fees for use of genetic resources
d.) reduce property taxes on land with protected wildlife habitat areas
e.) None of the above, all are economic incentives that support biological diversity

Screw the environment as most people need jobs. Biological diversity is some soft headed professors left wing altruistic views of a utopian world. Whoever is teaching this non sense never had a real job, had to work hard and has no feeling for people whatsoever. It must be an ivory tower, employment for life, tenured professor who never made the slightest contribution to this world in terms of education or production of a good. A fat city fool and leach who lives on tax payers money.

im making a ghillie hood and need to put ferns (because that is what is most around the area we play man hunt) and i need a way to preserve them so they dont dry up. i used to pick cat tails and spray hair spray on them so they didnt release their seeds and i was wondering if you could do something like that with ferns

You can try drying them and spraying with a fixative such as hair spray or lacquer, but ferns are very delicate, and the leaves will probably fall right off. How about synthetic ferns and greenery? Craft stores have some very realistic ferns that will hold up better than real ones. Or check out a fabric store. They have camoflage prints, or you could cut fabric of the right green into fern-like shapes. Hope this helps…

This no means a stupid question as parks and reserves are extremely important in many ways.

Parks and reserves are ecosytems, they may be on land or in water, eg yellow stone national park, great coral reef.
Ecosystem management is commonly recognized as a process that aims to conserve major ecological services and restore natural resources while meeting the socioeconomic, political and cultural needs of current and future generations ). The principle objective of ecosystem management is the efficient maintenance, and ethical use of natural resources . Ecosystem management acknowledges that the interrelation of socio-cultural, economic and ecological systems is paramount to understanding the circumstances that affect environmental goals and outcomes . It is a multifaceted and holistic approach which requires a significant change in how the natural and human environments are identified. Several approaches to effective ecosystem management engage conservation efforts at both a local or landscape level and involves: adaptive management, natural resource management, strategic management, and command and control management.

2 reasons (there are heeps)
Economy————tourism
Biological…………maintain bio diversity in a given area.

An example would be say we have national park through which flows a river, That river flows downstream into dam which feeds water into local communities. If anything was to happen to water in the park (pollution) it would have impact firther on in the water supply (example over simplistic but used as an illistrative tool)
