Sunday, July 20, 2008 at National Coal Corporation’s Zeb Mountain mine in Campbell County, Tennessee, four protesters were arrested in solidarity with United Mountain Defense, Three Rivers Earth First!, Mountain Justice, Christians for the Mountains and coal-impacted residents of Appalachia.

These brave individuals gave speeches of hope for solidarity amongst miners, activists and entire communities that are affected by the devastations of surface mining for coal. Holding hands and singing Amazing Grace along with more than 50 protesters behind them, they crossed the line onto National Coal’s property. Once across the line police calmly handcuffed and arrested them.

Having already destroyed more than 1,300 acres of Zeb Mountain, Knoxville-based National Coal has set its sights on other peaks across the state. Among the places it wants to mine is land in Sundquist Wildlife Management Area, a public game preserve that drains into Nashville’s drinking water supply.

One of those arrested yesterday was Eric Blevins of Grandview, Tenn. “I crossed an artificial line today because Appalachia is my homeland, and its life is being destroyed far faster than it can regenerate,” he said. “I wanted to open people’s minds to how insane it is that we allow corporations to own land without loving it and keeping life sustainable.”

The march began with a prayer led by Christians for the Mountains and included political theater, giant puppets, speeches, and renditions of “Rocky Top,” one of Tennessee’s state songs. It was organized by United Mountain Defense, Mountain Justice and Three Rivers Earth First!.

The film is a sequel to Predator (1987) and Predator 2 (1990). Producer Robert Rodriguez stated that he named the film “Predators” in relation to how the second film in the Alien franchise was called Aliens.

The film follows a mercenary named Royce (Adrien Brody), who is abducted by alien creatures known as the Predators. He is released onto an alien planet—which acts as a game preserve—along with seven other humans with the exception of a disgraced physician, are all cold-blooded killers, with the group consisting of mercenaries and convicts. Royce reluctantly leads the group of elite warriors as they come to realize they have been brought together on this planet as prey for a new breed of Predators.[4] While battling to survive against these creatures, they come across an American soldier known as Noland, who was brought to the planet years ago as game, but has managed to survive by hiding from the Predators in a cave. A Lakeland boy has been reunited with his best friend — a wild deer.
Hunter Brozio, 8, and Bucket, a young male deer, have formed a special friendship — so special that it won a national contest.
But when the two were separated, Hunter’s mother had to spend thousands of dollars to bring them back together.
Bucket the deer comes just like a dog when Hunter calls his name. They often share a snack together on the front porch.
Hunter submitted a home video of he and Bucket having breakfast together to a national contest called “Keepin’ It Rural.” The video won third place.
“Every day we just started getting closer and closer,” Hunter said.
Bucket also became friends with the family dog, Bear. The two would run around on the property together, but one day they ran too far. Last December, the dog and deer went missing. “I was really sad. I thought I’d just never see him again,” Hunter said.
After weeks of searching their Lakeland ranch, Hunter’s mom, Debbie Brozio, finally tracked down her missing pets. “A friend told me to go on the Animal Control Polk County web site to see if Bear was there and there was Bear’s mug shot, the chocolate lab’s mug shot,” said Brozio. “And so then I was able to trace the deer to Florida Fish and Game.”
Brozio says Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s attempt to release Bucket into the wild wasn’t going well.
“I don’t think that Bucket was ready for the wild. I think he wanted to be back here with Hunter,” Brozio said.
To reunite her son with Bucket, Brozio says she spent $3,000 and months battling government red tape.
“We became a licensed with the State of Florida game preserve. And so we followed their guidelines and built a pen to their specifications,” Brozio said.
In March, Bucket and Hunter were back together again.
“I was so happy when I found out that we got him back,” Hunter said.
Now the unlikely friends are back to sharing food on the porch.
